There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den betting is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous conveniences in addition to the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
