There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall betting is not legal. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are allegedly required to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that contains numerous luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
