Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that features a number of conveniences on top of the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
