Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, features one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that features many amenities on top of the casino, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
